Gary Hart, Bill Clinton, Newt Gingrich, Jesse Jackson, John Edwards, Elliot Spitzer, Tim Mahoney, David Vitter, John Ensign, Mark Sanford and a galaxy of politicians too numerous to list have committed adultery.
Whenever a Democrat politician commits adultery, Democrats pull out their list of Republican adulterers, and whenever a Republican politician commits adultery, Republicans pull out their list of Democrat adulterers. This whole battle of the “lists” is boring and pointless. Let’s just say a whole bunch of politicians from all over the political spectrum are “Hiking the Appalachian Trail” and doing the “Lewinsky” with someone other than their spouse and be done with it.
If we put the battle of the “lists” aside, we are left with a moral debate, framed mostly in the language of politics, about the nature of marriage. Republicans and conservatives usually look for illegalities when attacking Democratic adulterers like “He lied under oath”, “Prostitution is illegal,” and “He used campaign funds as hush money.” Democrats and liberals consistently hammer “the party of hypocrites who espouse family values and then fool around” theme when attacking Republican adultery.
The difference in the political rhetoric each side uses is revealing and much more important than the details of any marital infidelity committed by a particular politician. That conservatives point to illegalities committed as a byproduct of Democratic adultery indicates that the charge of adultery alone is not enough to oust a liberal Democrat politician. The charge of hypocrisy used by liberals to attack conservatives is the more interesting argument, interesting because it reveals a truth not about conservatives, but about the left. In order to be a hypocrite, one must have a publicly professed moral standard that is violated by adultery. By charging conservatives with hypocrisy, the left admits to a lack of any publicly expressed moral standard of its own.
Conservatives and many other Americans believe in marriage as a compact between a man, a woman, and God. In this traditional view of marriage, adultery is not just a betrayal of a marriage vow between a man and a woman, but a breaking of one’s covenant with God. Of course, even this higher form of commitment, does not make conservatives immune to sin, and probably does not make them substantially less likely to break marriage vows. I know liberal politicians and opinion makers, who, as far as I can tell, do not have the same concept of a “higher commitment” regarding marriage, but do seem to have a strong sense of personal commitment to marriage in their private lives anyway.
The debate about adultery, marriage and divorce is primarily one of “voice”. Who discourages adultery and divorce, and who by their trivialization of a “higher commitment”, encourages it. In public, and as a matter of policy, conservatives strive to discourage adultery and divorce. In public, and as a matter of policy, liberal progressives often present changing partners as just another lifestyle choice comparable to getting a new pair of shoes.
This rhetorical bias for adultery and divorce among liberals has its roots in the early radical feminist movement of the 60’s and 70’s, which told women that marriage was submission to patriarchy, and adultery and divorce were liberating. The other culprit is the sexual revolution that took place during the 60’s and 70’s. The baby boomers, and their “If it feels good do it” mantra, are as much to blame as the feminists. “Doing it” and “feeling good” became culturally acceptable in much of America, and “feeling good” for a lot of men and women, means having numerous sexual partners. Since then, many liberals have discarded these positions as a practical matter in their personal lives, but to this day, most have not abandoned the public rhetoric of adultery and divorce as sexual and personal liberation.
Conservatism is not about being perfect. Conservatives make many mistakes and have the same human weaknesses as anyone else. It’s what we do after we make a mistake that defines a conservative. Conservatives don’t change beliefs about fundamental issues just because we were too weak to live up to our own high standards. The goal for conservatives, and anyone who believes in marriage as a higher form of commitment, is to elevate behavior to meet the traditional standard, and not to lower standards to a baser level of behavior. That all humans can fail is understood. But, if words do mean things, conservatives are the more responsible voices in the debate on adultery and marriage. We encourage the view of marriage as a sacred commitment between man, woman, and God, and it is that viewpoint and that high standard, which produces the greatest good, for the greatest number of people.

The following is the speech that Lt. Col. Allen West gave at New Life Church in Deerfield Beach, FL on July 2, 2009 in preparation of the upcoming July 4th celebrations:
A greeting to all here at New Life Church and it is truly an honor to be here with you this evening. Deerfield Beach has a real special place in my heart because it was here that I taught HS for a year upon my retirement from 22 years active duty service.
Here we are together at an event called “Celebrate America” and I believe a good speaker should always pose a question for the audience. Therefore, “What do we Celebrate Today?”
Read Psalms 33:12
Sit and imagine a select group of men, some 56, on 2 July 1776, 233 years ago. Imagine being Thomas Jefferson with the unenviable task of creating a document which basically was an act of treason and would mean the death warrant for those who would later sign.
You are about to capture in words one of the two greatest political documents ever known, the Declaration of Independence…later came the Constitution of the United States.
So what drove these men to such a conviction? What did they hope we would be here celebrating 233 years later?
On this same day 233 years ago, Gen George Washington stated;
“We have therefore to resolve to conquer or die: Our Country’s Honor, all call upon us for vigorous and manly exertion, and if we now shamefully fail, we shall become infamous to the whole world.
Let us therefore rely upon the goodness of the Cause, and the aid of the Supreme Being, in whose hands Victory is, to animate and encourage us to great and noble Actions”.
Today we should be celebrating the beginnings of America and Americans. Today we should celebrate the triumph of the indomitable human will to seek out Freedom from tyrannical rule.
But then if I were to ask 200 people on the street this evening, “What is America and what is an American?” Do you think there would be one common answer or unifying theme?
Would the respondents understand that our Republic stands as a beacon of Liberty, Sacrifice, and Faith?
The 4th of July is more than just BBQ and fireworks, and time off from work. It is a day when we should reflect upon the fabric of this Nation, its history, struggles, challenges, defeats, and triumphs……everyone should rent and watch “The Patriot” and “John Adams”.
It is a day when we should examine ourselves as America and Americans and recommit ourselves to our foundational principles, beliefs, and yes Faith…….is there something wrong with embracing those basic American values?
Lets us look at some things that have recently occurred:
- We have a government that has castigated those who believe in certain foundational principles as extremists…and labeled returning military veterans as potential domestic terrorists.
- Just two days ago in the NY State Senate, there were legislators who refused to stand and give honor to the Pledge of Allegiance…and even restrained a comrade who attempted to stand and recite the pledge.
- A homegrown convert to islam gunned down two US Soldiers, killing one, outside an Army recruiting station in Little Rock Ark.
- There is legislation being developed to “give away” American citizenship to individuals who have entered our Country illegally…and we even have to “Press 1” for our own language, which no one in our Nation’s capitol wish to make official
- Lastly, we have our President state before a foreign nation that we are not a Christian Nation but one of many religions.
Why? How have we forgotten what we are supposed to celebrate?
Patrick Henry stated, “Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone that approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force you are inevitable ruined”.
And we all recall his most famous quote, “Give me liberty or give me death”.
The Freedoms we enjoy in America truly are not free; they come with a bill of personal sacrifice, responsibility, and accountability. We must hold ourselves to the highest degree of accountability to this Nation, under God indivisible with Liberty and Justice for all.
America is indeed a Land of Mutt’s, you know that is true but there must be a common fabric bonding us as Americans, language, beliefs, principles, shared goals, and Faith.
Inclusiveness of all cannot come at the detriment of our Society; for when tolerance becomes a one way street it leads to cultural suicide.
Washington stated, “We are either a people, or we are not. If the former, let us, in all matters of great concern act as a Nation, which has National objects to promote, and a National character to support. If we are not, let us no longer act a farce by pretending to it”.
What do we Celebrate Today?
We celebrate a rich Judeo-Christian heritage which is the foundational premise upon which America was birthed and exists today…sorry Mr President, you got it wrong!
Here are examples from our Founding Fathers;
Washington: “While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and Soldiers, we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of religion. To the distinguished character of Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian.”
John Adams: “The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity. I will avow that I then believed and now believe that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.”
Jefferson: “God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of people that these liberties are of the Gift of God?…..I tremble for my Country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever.”
Hancock: Resistance to tyranny becomes the Christian and social duty of each individual….Continue steadfast and, with a proper sense of your dependence on God, nobly defend those rights which Heaven gave, and no man ought to take from us.”
Patrick Henry: It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.”
And if there is any doubt about what guided the construction of our branches of government….READ ISAIAH 33:22.
Our Founding Fathers believed as David did in Psalms 20:7……..
Today we celebrate a rich heritage born of Men of Conviction, (24) of the (56) signers held seminary or Bible school degrees. (15) became POWs, (12) had their homes destroyed, and (9) fought and died.
As Christ gave us Freedom from sin…these Men gave us Freedom from tyranny, earthly Liberty.
Do not focus on the seemingly constant negative messages and hate driven upon us by our media. Celebrate that which is truly the “shining city which sits upon a hill”. Never forget that you ARE the “Salt of the earth, the lamp which burns brightest”.
Never forget that we must be committed to fighting for this rich heritage, our National objects and character…or else we shall just be another chapter in a history book in the future.
John Stuart Mill stated, “War is an ugly thing, not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks nothing worth a war, is worse.”
In conclusion, I am not advocating constant war or conflict, but I do advocate this, know that for which we should celebrate, honor it, and defend it. When the National Anthem is played correct someone that continues to talk or not remove their hat.
Teach our children and grandchildren the history of this Country, good, bad, and otherwise, develop in them a sense of pride in being an American, never ashamed to simply state, “I am an American”.
In December 1776 after our young Nation had suffered defeats by the British, Thomas Paine stated, “These are the times that try Men’s souls. The summer Soldier and sunshine Patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his Country; but he (she) that stands now deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.”
As I depart, I humbly beseech you not be the sunshine Patriot, celebrate the 4th of July every day honoring our Judeo-Christian heritage, honoring America.
Faithful and True.
God be with you all, God Bless America
Lt. Col. Allen West

Today I received an interesting, original graphic from Jim Graham, a reader of mine and a gentleman who sends out his own political graphics to a list of local conservatives.
Graham, who by his own account subscribed to The Palm Beach Post for 50 years, canceled his subscription because he could no longer stand what he believes to be reporting and commentary with a liberal bias.
Back in April, in a post titled, “Liberal bent misses the point of today’s newspapers,” I wrote: “In this case, the conservative theory on the downfall of the print media is more schadenfreude, directed at an age-old antagonist, than actual analysis.” In the same post, I also credited the conservative movement as having an impact on the downfall of the liberal media, just not as large a one as they always think.
I stand by that post. The dinosaur liberal print media is dying the slow and painful death of a thousand cuts, and I still believe the majority of those cuts are because the Internet has destroyed the business model of print journalism.
But, and this is a big “but,” the general unwillingness of the print media divas to even consider that an ingrained liberal bias has anything to do with the downfall of print makes me want to pull all the hair out of my head, and I have a lot of hair.
I post Graham’s graphic, not to single out in this particular instance The Palm Beach Post, but in a probably futile attempt to get the print divas to take their heads out of the sand.
Graham may be but one voice crying out in the wilderness, but over the years, I have learned that there are many Jim Grahams out there.
When the Grahams of the world stop reading local newspapers, then the world of liberal print will exist, if it exists at all, in an economically unsustainable, progressive echo chamber of its own creation that talks only to itself. In fact, it is this already-existing liberal progressive echo chamber that has finally driven Graham to seek an alternative source for news.
And that is not the fault of the Internet.

The economic turmoil we’re currently enduring, the sub-prime mortgage problems, the widespread foreclosures, etc. were caused by the government. It was the ‘Community Reinvestment Act’ that encouraged the banks to give artificially low rates to people that couldn’t possibly repay their loans. It was Congressman Barney Frank that blocked attempts by Senator McCain and President Bush to reign in Fannie and Freddie. It was interference by the Federal Government, all in the name of “fairness,” that brought us to where we were last year.
Then the Federal Government, led by George W. Bush and Treasury Secretary Paulson, decided they would fix the problem that the government created in the first place, by using our tax dollars to bailout banks and supposedly the people that never should have been given loans in the first place. We were told the sky was falling. We were told that if we did nothing things would get far worse.
To the credit of the public, we knew this was a bad idea and we spoke out loudly. We said “NO”. Initially, the House of Representatives didn’t pass the first TARP, but under political pressure they did pass an even bigger TARP the second time around. They defied the people they work for. But despite the TARP, foreclosures continued and the government got into the banking business.
Next came bailouts for the auto industry. Again, the public said “NO”. We knew that picking winners and losers isn’t the job of the Federal Government, in fact it’s unconstitutional. If in a free market society if a company fails, then it files for Chapter 7 or Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. But again, the President, the Treasury Secretary and the Congress ignored us and did what they wanted. The result? GM and Chrysler not only went into bankruptcy (after tens of billions of taxpayer money went down the drain), but the UAW and the Federal Government became the major owners of the company. Oh and in the process, the President of the United States intimidated the secured bond holders of Chrysler into taking pennies on the dollar and made them the bad guys in the media and court of public opinion. When did it become wrong in this country to expect contracts to be honored and for investors to want to make a profit?
After Obama’s inauguration he called for more TARP money and a $787 billion “stimulus” package. Despite continued opposition from the public the TARP 2 was passed and the largest spending bill in our nation’s history was passed, without a single member of Congress reading it. In addition, the bill was mostly pet projects, pork barrel spending and very little to actually stimulate the private sector. The so-called stimulus has only stimulated the growth of the Federal Government and a rise in the unemployment rate. In fact the President said that without the stimulus the unemployment rate would go over 8%. Well guess what? With the “stimulus” the unemployment rate is at 9.4%. The only place that unemployment is down is in Washington, DC.
I keep hearing the President telling us that the problem is the unscrupulous bankers, the evil bond holders, the CEO’s of the automakers, etc. No mention of labor unions that demanded unsustainable benefits for current and retired employees. This president vilifies anyone in the private sector that is in the way of his agenda. His agenda unfortunately is to grow the Federal Government and give it powers that the Constitution does NOT grant it.
It is not intelligent or logical to conclude that the incompetent, bureaucratic and politically motivated people that got us into this mess are going get us out of it. In fact it’s foolish to think that’s even their intention. All signs are that what the President and his liberal allies in the House and Senate want, is to take and keep tremendous and unprecedented power for the government and themselves. They can’t really believe that spending trillions of dollars, that they’re borrowing since we don’t have it, is going to get us out of this recession, can they? Apparently they do believe that the public is stupid enough to buy that idea though.
The bottom line is the very people that got this nation into this economic trouble are only making it worse and are ignoring, no defying the people they’re supposed to represent. The good news is we don’t have to take it. Despite what they seem to think, they work for US! We can take back the US House and Senate, one seat at a time. From the grassroots, we the people can select the candidates that will represent us. We need to throw the bums out. There are a select few currently serving in Congress that understand that the people are the bosses and the members of Congress are our employees. People like Rep. Thaddeus McCotter and Rep. Michele Bachmann are standing up for us. But they are sorely outnumbered. They need us to send reinforcements.
Write your US Senators and member of the House. Write to the President. Write letters to the editor of your local newspapers too. Let them all know, we’ve had enough. We want the out of control spending and unprecedented government growth to stop, now. We want them to listen to their bosses, or we will fire them. This isn’t about parties, since both parties are guilty of ignoring us. This is about right and wrong. This about the Constitution.

Greetings fellow South Florida riders, South Floridians, and Americans, here we are for another monthly installment of our Wheels on the Road political assessment. This month’s title is appropriate because Rod Serling could not have written this script any better. Everyday we wake up and have to ask ourselves, “Are we in some kinda parallel universe”? Actually Serling had an episode which fits appropriately.
Therefore I googled up what has to be my favorite Twilight Zone episode, “To Serve Man”. Here is the synopsis of the episode, which was available upon search.
“A race of aliens known as the Kanamits, they were tall, land on earth and promise to be nothing but helpful to the cause of humanity. Initially wary of the intentions of such a highly advanced race even the most skeptical humans are convinced when their code-breakers begin to translate one of the Kanamit’s books with the seemingly innocuous title, “To Serve Man”.
Sharing their advanced technology, the aliens quickly solve all of the Earth’s greatest woes, eradicating hunger, disease, and the need for welfare. Soon humans are volunteering for trips to the Kanamits’ home planet, which is supposedly a paradise.
All is not well, however, when a code-breaker discovers the Kanamits’ true intentions: Their book, “To Serve Man”, is a cookbook, and all their gifts were simply to make humanity complacent, much like fattening pigs or cows before they are slaughtered.”
Here we are today and the Kanamits are the far left liberals and their book is “Rules for Radicals” by Saul Alinsky.
How many people mindlessly followed, ok, well, I will not call him an alien, Obama’s empty rhetoric of “change and hope”? How many were hypnotized by the promises of everything being taken care of and the seas rising.
They just boarded that spaceship while others where telling them, beware. Now we are hearing people state, this is not what I voted for, too late, you have been served up on a plate.
One of the groups which is now trying to jump from the Obama spaceship is the Jewish community who voted about 78% as a block. All the while the American Jewish community was being told about associations with Louis Farrakhan, Rev Jeremiah Wright, and Khalid Rashidi. There were those warning them to read his book, “Dreams of my Father” where Obama said he would, “stand with his muslim brothers”. What did we hear back from the mindless lemmings? Obama loves Israel. Obama will not betray Israel.
My response, “To serve Israel”.
Another group which wholeheartedly drank the kool aid to the tune of 97% was my own black community. I cannot tell you how many times I had deep discussions with family and friends about the 2008 Presidential elections. It would always end up with something like this, “Allen, you just hate him and I don’t care about those issues. I want a black president.” Well, they certainly indeed have a bi-racial muslim raised President of whom they can now attribute a burgeoning national unemployment rate of 9.4%, which is probably doubled in the inner city black community.
And will Obama do anything about illegal immigration which denies the black community jobs, and depresses wages?
My response, “To serve Blacks”.
I remember election night when Obama was declared victor, kind of goes along with the whole imperial Caesar image. On that night people stood in awe, similar to watching the Kanamits.
Obama made a statement which echoes in my mind, “Chicago is coming to Washington DC”. Well, it certainly has and all the corruption and coercive practices was in tow. We have seen a private sector CEO fired. Banks have been strong armed to not only take government funding but to also not repay TARP funds received. We have seen the greatest automobile manufacturer in the world brought to its knees, now owned by the government and unions.
Our healthcare is now the new target and the remedy is not to have solutions driven by medical professionals, just more government intervention. It will cost over $1Trillion and we have no idea as to how this will be paid for….here is a bet, rationing and higher taxes. But, everyone will have healthcare, no woes.
We have 16-19 “Czars” who are unconstitutionally placed in positions to dictate and influence National policy but only answer to our imperial fearful leader. There is no Congressional oversight and these Czars are above the appointed Cabinet positions. In essence, Chicago came to the White House and has created a shadow government.
I watched this President deliver a speech before a university in Cairo (not Georgia where the syrup is made) Egypt loaded with historical inaccuracies. It was a speech which, again, made a point of apologizing for America and appeasing the vilest of enemies with whom we are embroiled in global combat operations.
This President recently was “outraged” at the shooting death of an abortion doctor in Kansas, who had performed countless late term procedures. I do not condone this murder, but when contrasted against the death of Army PFC William Long, I am outraged.
Private Long was killed by a converted jihadist from Memphis Tn originally named Carlos Bledsoe. This fella had somehow secured a Somali passport, attended a Yemeni terrorist training camp, and returned to America where his goal was to kill American Soldiers. Furthermore, a laptop confiscated from this homegrown terrorist had a target list of churches and synagogues.
Our President boarded a plane to Egypt, gave another worthless speech, and then some 72 hours after the shooting delivered a statement where he was, “saddened”.
We have two American journalists sentenced to 12 years hard labor in a Country which has been testing missiles and underground nuclear weapons. We are now implementing a policy of reading Miranda rights to captured terrorists. We now are giving released detainees taxpayer dollars to “start anew” and have great new lives in resort locations like, Bermuda.
My response, “To serve America”.
Now, I could go on and talk about a quadruped debt, and remember this has all occurred in 5 months….Katie bar the Door!
What makes all this even more despicable is the complicity of a media that has become nothing more than cheerleaders. Once upon a time there was honor and integrity in the news, now it is nothing more than manipulated propaganda. Heck, ABC is about to broadcast a news segment, one hour, from the White House.
The media is simply seasoning us for the modern day Kanamits, the liberal socialists.
Who will make a stand for the American people? All I see are bloggers, talk radio hosts, Fox News, and concerned American citizens being alerted, they broke the code and found the cookbook.
This is the closing narration from the episode, “The recollections of one Michael Chambers, with appropriate flashbacks and soliloquy. Or more simply stated, the evolution of man, the cycle of going from dust to dessert, the metamorphosis from being the ruler of a planet to an ingredient in someone’s soup. It’s tonight’s bill of fare from the Twilight Zone”.
Stop drinking the kool-aid, don’t look into the light, stop following the Kanamits, unless you wish to be “served”.

Every conservative I speak to is getting sick and tired of liberal media pundits and moderate Republicans telling conservatives what we should believe in.
Conservatives welcome anyone who wants to join us in the Republican Party for any reason, but we will not change what we believe in just because a bunch of liberal progressive Republicans, without values or principles, think we should.
When the Republican Party acts like a conservative party, like they did in 1980,1984,1988, 2000 and 2004, they win presidential elections.
When the Republican Party turns its back on its conservative base, like it did in 1992, 1996 and 2008, it loses presidential elections. It’s that simple.
I’m a pro-life, pro-second amendment, pro-family, pro-military, small government, low taxes, anti-socialist, Catholic, flag-loving, hard- working free American. I think global warming is a bunch of nonsense and that Western Civilization is locked in a life and death struggle with Radical Islam.
Without people like me, there is no Republican Party. We are the base, and any Republican who doesn’t like that can follow that old bag of dirt, Arlen Specter, out the door.
Almost every penny-loafer wearing Republican Party official in the country is running around talking about “outreach” and “twitter,” instead of working to repair the schism between the Republican Party and the conservative movement.
Conservatives are not going anywhere. Conservatives don’t quit. We’re not looking for a lobbying gig. This isn’t a career for us. It’s a calling. We’re trying to save our country. Not for ourselves, but for our children.
If weak-kneed, spineless jellyfish Republicans are afraid to fight Obama and the socialists, that’s their problem. Conservatives will stand and fight. Within the Republican Party, and with the Democrats, wherever and whenever we have to.
Conservatives are the shock troops of the Republican Party, we always have been, and we will fight to make our country better, with moderate Republicans, or without them.

On May 11th, Florida Governor Charlie Crist announced that he was running for the US Senate seat being vacated by Mel Martinez. On the same day, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) chaired by Senator Cornyn, endorsed Governor Crist. It is inappropriate for the NRSC to endorse a candidate in a primary race. There are two other candidates, Dr. Marion Thorpe (former Chief Medical Officer of Florida) and Marco Rubio (former Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives).
The endorsement of Governor Crist is a symptom of two larger problems in the GOP. The first problem is that the Party’s elites have bought into the mainstream media’s contention that in order to win, Republicans need to nominate “moderate” candidates. I put the word moderate in quotes, because many within the Party believe that so-called moderates are actually not Republicans at all. Some call them R.I.N.O.s (Republican In Name Only). Some call them “Democrat-Light”. Still others call them the “right-wing of the Democratic Party”. Whatever you call them, these candidates either don’t win elections or they win but infuriate Republicans by supporting and enacting legislation and policies that are more like those put forth by Democrats and liberals, than Republicans and conservatives.
The other problem is that the GOP elites, whether they be in Washington, D.C., Tallahassee or any other state capitol believe that they know better than the grassroots, rank and file, members of the Party that actually campaign, fundraise and vote for candidates. After the Tea Parties in April many Republican “leaders” said they saw, heard and understood what the people were saying. They said they understood that the GOP had lost it’s way and had strayed away from the conservative principles that made us successful in the past. The fact that they’re recruiting and endorsing candidates like Charlie Crist, Tom Ridge and Carly Fiorina would have to lead a conservative to believe that they haven’t gotten the message at all.
It is the opinion of some that winning an election with a candidate that has an “R” after their name is more important than electing candidates that actually embrace Republican/Conservative principles. That is not the opinion of the majority of the rank and file Republicans. We’re tired of the R.I.N.O. candidates that pay lip service to us to get elected and then betray us once they’re in power. The result of this disconnect between the elites and the grassroots will be nasty primary fights that may ultimately lead to general election defeats. It is almost an absolute certainty that the primary between Charlie Crist, Marco Rubio and Marion Thorpe will lead to a rift in the Florida Republican Party. But the fault lies squarely with the Governor and RPOF Chair Jim Greer. The people have spoken, but nobody in Washington or Tallahassee is listening.

Everyone knows that gun and ammunition sales have skyrocketed over the last year. Thousands of “how dare they” editorials and columns have been written by the liberal-progressive wusses in the mainstream media on the topic.
The gun buying has prompted the Department of Homeland Security to issue the following warning to law enforcement: “Proposed imposition of firearms restrictions and weapons bans likely would attract new members into the ranks of rightwing extremist groups, as well as potentially spur some of them to begin planning and training for violence against the government. The high volume of purchases and stockpiling of weapons and ammunition by rightwing extremists in anticipation of restrictions and bans in some parts of the country continue to be a primary concern to law enforcement”
Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano’s outrageous report titled, Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment, ignored the concerns of civil libertarians and her own Homeland Security lawyers, and labeled as potential terrorists pro-lifer’s, veterans, federalists and Americans who oppose illegal immigration.
Janet “Reno” Napolitano seems to be preparing to immortalize herself with her very own Waco, except this time around, Napolitano wants to target law-abiding American citizens exercising their constitutional rights.
Last week, Lt. Col. Allen West answered Napolitano’s slur of veterans in an email sent to supporters, and posted on the Palin Drone blog.
The weenie Obamabots in the liberal press are trying to portray increased gun buying as some sort of anti-Obama revolutionary plot. It isn’t. I know some people that have recently armed themselves for the first time, and the election of President Obama had nothing to do with their decision to purchase a weapon. Sure, there are some gun enthusiasts buying weapons in anticipation of more draconian and unconstitutional gun laws.
When any country faces the possibility of economic collapse, the citizenry arms itself. Not to overthrow the government, but to protect themselves and their families from the rising crime and lawlessness that usually accompanies an economic depression. The lawlessness feared by many may or may not materialize, but a prudent person plans for even the remote possibility that things may not work out as well as we all hope.
Yesterday, a friend sent me a really cool, somewhat racy ad that illustrates my point. (Warning: This video may not be suitable viewing for weak pacifist males, hoplophobes, liberals, and wimpy “the police will protect me” progressives.)
Now that I’ve posted this video, I guess I’m going to end up on one of Napolitano’s watch lists. But rising crime is a real possibility and I tend to adhere to the old saying “ I’d rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6.”
Paul Valone, of the Charlotte Gun Rights Examiner, says it even better in the closing of his excellent piece, Armed self-defense & ‘The Stopwatch of Death’, by quoting Clint Smith, founder of Thunder Ranch and one of the world’s foremost authorities on armed self-defense: “I may get killed with my own gun, but he’s gonna have to beat me to death with it, ’cause it’s going to be empty.”

Many conservatives like to believe that the rapidly fading fortunes of the liberal-dominated print media is in large part due to conservatives turning to the alternative media for unbiased reporting and/or reporting with a more conservative spin.
While there is some merit to the conservative claim, it isn’t the decisive factor that many of us would like to think.
In this case, the conservative theory on the downfall of the print media is more schadenfreude, directed at an age-old antagonist, than actual analysis.
That’s not to say the media isn’t biased, because it is, and the conservative spurning of traditional media is real, and has had an effect.
The popularity and ratings dominance of Fox News on cable TV speaks for itself.
But there are bigger and even more revolutionary forces at work in the world of print journalism, and anyone with an interest in politics needs to understand what is really going on.
I have been asked many times over the last few months why I’ve chosen to write a blog online for the Sun Sentinel instead of trying to get published in the print edition. The Shirky piece has the answer, and Shirky should be required reading for everyone in the media, and for those who regularly interact with the media.
According to Shirky: “ Society doesn’t need newspapers. What we need is journalism,” and, “When we shift our attention from ’save newspapers’ to ’save society,’ the imperative changes from ‘preserve the current institutions’ to ‘do whatever works.’ And what works today isn’t the same as what used to work.”
So in my own small way, I’m trying to do “whatever works,” in service to conservatism, online, at the Sun Sentinel.
It is interesting to note that with only the rarest exception, everyone who has asked me the “why online instead of print” question has been over 50 years old. Hardly anyone under 40 has asked me that question. The under-40s don’t have to ask. They already know the answer.
